Commonly called helmet flower or helmet skullcap, this small flowering plant in the mint family is native to the eastern United States where it is found in pine savannas, mixed woodlands, along creek banks, and within oak-hickory woods. It is often observed at sites that had previously been burned.

Reaches 1-2' tall

 

Thrives in part to full sun.

 

Tolerates a wide range of dry to wet soils.
