This low-growing, fine-textured sedge flourishes on the banks of ponds and other moist sites with part sun. It forms clumps of flowing, light green foliage 1 to 2 feet tall and slowly colonizes in a range of soils, including poor and clay (another common name is social sedge, referring to its tendency to spread). It tolerates drier conditions and drought once established. Low woodland sedge is native to the southern midwest where it is often found in seasonally wet sites in open woods.
Use as a woodland groundcover, along banks of water features, or in a rain garden.
