What's not to like? Obedient plant offers cheery color from mid-summer to first frost, and it's resistant to deer! It's a beautiful addition to all kinds of gardens and landscapes. Individual flowers stay in place when moved, thus the common name. The native species usually has white flowers, as opposed to pinks and purples that appear on cultivars.
Stems may flop in rich soils, hot temps, or shade.
Plant Characteristics:
Grows 3-4' tall and 2-3' wide.
Prefers full or part sun.
Adapts to a wide range of moist, well-drained soils, including loamy, rich, clay, and sand. Tolerates occasional wet conditions. Growth is more aggressive in rich, moist soils.
White or pink-tinged, two-lipped flowers bloom July-October in showy terminal spikes.
Smooth, green leaves are 1-3" long, sharply serrated, and lance shaped.

It attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
