A warm season bunch grass, purpletop is breathtaking when planted in drifts in a prairie. It hosts several butterfly and moth species and its seed heads are high in fat and prized by birds and small mammals in winter.

Part to full sun.

 

Prefers dry to average, well-drained soils. Tolerates road salt.
