A warm season bunch grass, purpletop is breathtaking when planted in drifts in a prairie. It hosts several butterfly and moth species and its seed heads are high in fat and prized by birds and small mammals in winter. 

 

Grows 2-4' tall, spreads by seed

Prefers dry to average, well-drained soils
